The Sussex Tech Ravens came from five runs down to win at Caesar Rodney in softball this afternoon 10-6.

Caesar Rodney banged out 7 straight hits to start the game, including a home run to right-center field off the bat of pitcher Peyton Shields, a double by Stacy Deputy & a triple by Sydney Hatch to take a 5-0 lead and chase starter Brynn Parker.

The Ravens put up a 5-spot in the 3rd inning on three hits and two CR errors. Megan Sterling tripled (one of three triples in the game), while Kayla Evans & Parker singled in the rally. Meanwhile Kylie Kruger only allowed one run in relief of Parker to get the win for Sussex Tech.

There were several outstanding defensive plays in the game. The first came in the 2nd inning when Peyton Shields smashed a line drive to centerfield that was caught on a sliding dive by Laniya Lewis. In the top of the 4th, CR’s second baseman Margaret McCarthy dove to her right to stab a hot ground ball and throw out Kayla Evans. Then in the bottom of the 4th, the Riders loaded the bases with two outs when Evans dove behind the circle to make a great catch on a pop up.

The two teams combined for 24 hits in the 2-hour game. Kruger led Sussex Tech with 3 hits while six different Riders had 2 hits. CR came into the game with 2 home runs. They doubled that season total with Shields’ long ball and a rocket shot off the bat of Ashlyn Schmidt.

The 2nd ranked Riders lost for the first time this season (8-1) while the 4th ranked Ravens improved to 8-1 with the win.
