Wilmington dominates Bridgeport in Game 1

No. 1 Wilmington Wildcats face off with the No. 2 Bridgeport Purple Knights for the CACC Mid-Atlantic regional. The Wildcats have to beat the Knights twice since the tournament is double elimination in order to win the tournament since they fell to them 4-2 yesterday.

 

The Wildcats dropped into the losers bracket with the loss to face cross town rival Goldey-Beacom. The Wildcats were able to defeat the Lightning with a 4-3 victory that eliminated Goldey from the tournament while setting up a rematch with Bridgeport.

 

In game one The Wilmington Wildcats dominated Bridgeport in an 8-0 mercy rule victory. The Wildcats scored in every inning of the game which only lasted five.  Wilmington scored their 8 runs 16 hits with Taylor Gillis led the Wildcats going 4-4 with 3 runs scored. Tristyn Stewart added 3 hits going 3-3, while Gabrielle Saucedo, Sam Freeland, and Julia Thuer each added 2 hits. 

 

On the mound Kylee Gunkel was dominant as well. She threw a complete game while only allowing 1 hit. She struck out 5 batters while allowing just 2 walks. 

 

Mya Jones had the only hit for Bridgeport

 

Game two was postponed due to rain and will now be played tomorrow at 9:30am. So we will have to wait to see who advances to the Division II NCAA tournament.
