In a battle of two top ten ranked baseball teams the No. 9 William Penn Colonials were able to hold off a late run from the No. 10 St Georges Hawks.

The Haks jumped out to an early 3-0 lead scoring one in each of the first third innings capitalizing on  a few errors and good situational baseball. Then in the top of the fourth inning the Colonials bat woke up.

William Penn scored 5 runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 5-3 lead. Colby Gilbert got things started with one of his two doubles in the game, followed by singles from Christian Figueroa-Colon, Peter Wilson, Hassn Turner, John Grybowski, and Mikey Baker.

The Hawks did get a run back in the bottom of the fourth on a solo home run by Garrett Overby making it a 5-4 game.

Heading into the top of the seventh inning after adding a run in the fifth the Colonial had a two run lead 6-4. They then went on to add six more runs in the inning to take a 12-4 lead. In the inning Baker doubled, scoring two, while Gilbert doubled for the second time of the game scoring one. Both Wilson and Turner added singles in the inning and both players scored. Turner also added an RBI on his single.

However the Hawks did not go away easily. They had their best inning of the game scoring six runs of their own in the bottom of the seventh. After a hit by pitch and a walk Logan Burns got the scoring started on his only hit of the game, a single that drove in a run. Chase Horitz and Overby both added singles in the inning as well.

Despite the big inning, six runs was not enough for the Hawks as they fell to the Colonials by a score of 12-10. The Colonials collected 13 hits in the game while the Hawks collected 11 runs in this high scoring affair.

The Colonials were led by Turner and Gilbert who each had 3 hits in the game with Turner also adding 4 RBI’s. Baker and Wilson each had two hits with Baker adding 2 RBI’s and Wilson scoring 2 runs. On the Mound Grybowski got the win.

For the Hawks Joey Russo, Overby, and Horitz added two hits a piece. Overby scored two runs and added an RBI. On the mound Overby took the loss for the Hawks.
