Sanford’s Villanova recruit Nnanna Njoku scored 20 points against Caravel.
A week before Thursday’s matchup with top 10 ten ranked Caravel, the Sanford Warriors suffered a tough 52-44 loss to Tatnall.
But the Warriors quickly put that game behind them and put on a close to perfect performance in response, one that included an ESPN top play from Warrior Star and Villanova recruit Nnanna Njoku.
The Warriors’ intensity and execution on the defensive end helped open up the game and led to multiple scoring opportunities in transition. Sanford dominated the glass with their size advantage over Caravel and controlled the game with their defense, holding caravel to just 10 first-half points.
Sanford received contributions from all over the roster but was led by star forward Njoku, who finished the game with 20 points and an ESPN top 10 play for week number 4.
Carter Ruby helped lead the way defensively and was active all over the floor, creating defense into offense for the Warriors. Brandon Dwyer got the scoring started for Sanford and was great behind the arc, shooting 5-7 and finishing with 15 points.
Caravel struggled to score the basketball against this tough Sanford defense and it didn’t help that the Bucs lost their talented Freshman and leading scorer, Miles White, due to a foot injury in the first quarter. He came in averaging 13.8 points per game.
John Clemmons was the sole bright spot for Caravel scoring 14 points and 9 out of the caravel 10 in the first half.
Caravel (4-2) will look to rebound Saturday, Feb. 6, when they welcome Charter at 4 p.m.
Sanford will try and take this momentum into the SL24 Unlocke the Light Memorial Basketball Classic, which raises money for student mental health. There, they will meet a top 10 ranked opponent in Salesianum on Saturday at 8 p.m.
