In week 2 of the season we can already tell that this year is going to be a competitive season amongst the top teams in the state with multiple teams having a chance to win it all. We know it’s early but the matches are already beginning to tell the story. One big note is that last year’s reigning state champs are not in this week’s top ten after suffering 2 losses already this season.
Let’s look at this weeks Top 10
1. Ursuline (4-0). The Raiders have already defeated No. 4 Tower Hill and No. 6 Padua this season. They will look to stay undefeated as the face No. 7 Archmere at St. E Center on Sept. 18th, That will be their third ranked opponent already this season
2. Saint Mark’s (2-0). The Spartans have wins over St Georges and Brandywine this season. They will play their first ranked opponents this week as they face No. 5 Wilmington Charter on Sept. 13th.
3. Newark Charter (2-0). Newark Charter has defeated First State Military and Delmarva Christian in doing so they have not lost a set yet.This week they hit the road to play DMA on Sept. 17th and Caesar Rodney on the 19th.
4. Tower Hill (2-1). The Hillers opened the season with two wins over Wilmongton Christian and Sanford before suffering a loss last night to No. 1 Ursuline. Tower Hill will face division rival Tatnall in their next match on Sept. 19th.
5. Wilmington Charter (2-0). Opened the season with two wins over DMA and Appoquinimink. This week they face No. 2 Saint Marks Friday Sept. 13th.
6. Padua (1-1). The Pandas beat St Elizabeth in their first game then fell to No. 1 Ursuline in their second game. They will now face No. 7 Archmere Sept. 13th
7. Archmere (2-0). The Auks defeated the reigning state champs Smyrna to open the season then beat MOT Charter in 5 sets to stay undefeated. They will now face No. 6 Padua Sept. 13th
8. Caravel (2-0). The Buccaneers defeated Tatnall and Dover to open the season. They will now face Indian River Sept. 14th. They will then see their toughest opponent next week as they face Smyrna
9. Cape Henlopen (3-0). Cape is the only Henlopen team in the top ten with three wins. They beat Delmarva Christian, Woodbridge and Smyrna. They face Polytech in their next match on Sept. 17th.
10. Conrad (3-0). The Red Wolves start off the season with three wins over Brandywine, St Elizabeths, and Concord. Next week they face off with No. 5 Wilmington Charter on Sept. 17th.
