The Den will offer late-night dining to UD students.

A new late-night option is being added to the University of Delaware’s Perkins Student Center, to the delight of night owls, bar hoppers and students hitting the books.

“Finally, a place to grab a bite after a late night of studying,” said the UD announcement about it.

The Den,” a fast-casual concept by Dennys  located only on college campuses catering to students and twenty-somethings, will serve burgers and more.

The addition of The Den was among several changes that were highlighted, including:

  • UDairy Creamery Cafe. It opened this summer in the Barnes and Noble University of Delaware Bookstore. The café will serve UDairy Creamery favorites like ice cream, waffle cones and cheese. It also will offer a full coffee drink menu and light fare, including sandwiches made with UDairy Creamery cheese.
  • Little Goat in Trabant. The beloved Newark coffee shop off Main Street now has a location in Trabant Food Court. Stomping Grounds will feature hand-crafted beverages made with coffee.
  • Flip Kitchen. The fast casual site offers a one-stop shop to create your own favorites. It uses two rotating menu “flips” and offers tossed salads, smoothies, grilled flatbreads and globally inspired rice bowls on the core menu, and then flips to offer gourmet mac and cheese, artisan-style pizzas, stuffed baguettes and much more.
  • Marketplace in Perkins. The East campus site offers snacks, on-the-go food items or bottled beverages with a convenient self-payment system.

Even though The Den is in the Perkins Student Center, it will operate independently from other dining stations, allowing it to stay open later. It also will feature indoor and outdoor dining options.

UD spokeswoman Andrea Boyle Tippet said Friday that students can use cash, credit or their flex account points to eat at The Den, like other University of Delaware campus dining options.

She was not yet sure what the operating hours would be. The UD website said it will be “open late.”

The Den will serve all-day breakfast and some staples from a traditional Denny’s restaurant, such as the original Grand Slam breakfast platter.

It will not have the same expansive menu,. which includes sirloin steak and chicken fried chicken. Its menu consists mainly of burgers, sandwiches and wraps as well as a list of ice cream sundaes and shakes.
