Division 1 Field Hockey

No. 1  Cape Henlopen (8-0) The Vikings keep winning. They beat a tough IR team and had a close 2-0 win over Milford. Macy Steinwedel (10) and Mairead Rishko (8) lead in goals scored, Norah Block has 4 assists and Isabella Mekulski has 13 saves in goal. The ball patterns, passing and connections between players like Avary Miller and Emily Smith will be hard to beat. The Vikings catch a break this week with only 1 game. They will host CR on Oct. 1 for their Morgan’s Message game for Mental Health Awareness.

No. 2   Milford (5-2) The Bucs played a great game with Cape, a game that the score didn’t really depict how well they played. I’m leaving Milford as No.2 because of their strength of schedule. The Bucs only have one road game this week at No. 3 Smyrna. Hannah Zimmerman still leads the team with 14 goals. Bailey Masten can flat out fly up and down the field and the defense of Jordan Casper, Ashlyn Jordan, Grace LoBiondo in front of GK Madison Stahl (43 saves) makes a wall that teams have to get through to find the cage.

No. 3 Smyrna (5-2) The Eagles bounced back this week to No. 3. They had a BIG week with a win over Delmar at Delmar 3-1. Beamer and Nacrelli with goals in that game helped them pick up the win. They will host a tough Milford team Oct. 1 and then face off at Caravel for an exciting night game at 7:15 on Wednesday Oct. 3. Bree Moffett leads with 14 goals, 7 assists, Addison Beamer (6 goals,5 assists), and McKenna Wilson (5 goals) lead the Eagles.

No. 4   Charter School of Wilmington (6-1) The Force drops to # 4 this week after picking up 2 wins over Tatnall and St. E’s this week as they lack the strength of schedule No. 2 Milford and No. 3 Smyrna have. They will play 3 games this week, hosting Padua Monday Sept. 30, then traveling to Archmere Oct. 2 and DMA Oct. 4. Alexa Guarneri leads with 16 goals.

No. 5 Odessa (6-0) The Ducks are 6-0, remaining undefeated and taking over the No. 5 spot this week. Sophia Ridegway scored early to hold off Concord 1-0. Ridgeway and Caroine PErry lead the offense with 8 goals each, while Bailey Hennessey has provided 6 assists. The Ducks only have one game this week at Ursuline on Oct. 3.

No. 6  Middletown (5-1) The Cavaliers were tested at Newark Charter and lost 7-0, dropping to No. 6 this week. They will have to find a way to regroup. On Friday Sept. 27 they were supposed to go to Mount Pleasant to make up a previously scheduled game, but it was postponed again. They will spend the week on the road at St. George’s Oct. 2 and at Polytech Oct. 4. Flannery Grimm (9) and Layla Dukes (8) lead with the offense in goals.

No. 7 Sussex Tech (4-2-1)  The Ravens picked up two more wins this week, and moved from 8 to 7 in the top 10 this week. The Ravens are traveling to Dover on Oct. 1,  then host Holly Grove Christian School (MD) for Senior Day.

No. 8 Caesar Rodney (3-3) The Riders have hit the tough stretch of their season. They travel to Cape Henlopen Oct. 1, to Indian River Oct. 3 and to Delmar for the next 3 games. They have 10 different players who have scored this season, Ella Brown and Addison Plews lead the way.

No. 9/No. 10

Filling the 9 and 10 spots this week is tough as 3 teams have a 2-5 record. Not the season they were all hoping for I’m sure, but let’s see if someone can separate themselves from the pack here this week and pick up a Dub along the way. Let’s keep an eye on:

Polytech (2-5) The Panthers continue to struggle, dropping 5 in a row. They will have 3 games this week: Oct. 1 host Sussex Central, Oct. 3 host Woodbridge, Oct. 4 host Middletown.

Padua (2-5) The Pandas have another tough week facing Wilmington Charter on Monday Oct. 30 and Appo at the Chase Fieldhouse on Oct. 3.

Appo (2-5) The Jags play three in a row this week as they host DMA Oct. 1, host William Penn Oct. 2, and travel to the Chase Fieldhouse to play Padua on Oct. 3.

Division 2 Field Hockey

No 1. Delmar (8-1)  The Wildcats rebounded from the loss to Smyrna, picking up 2 wins against Lake Forest and Pocomoke. Despite a loss, they remain my No. 1 due to strength of schedule. They catch a breather this week with only one game against Woodbridge at home on Oct. 1. Jordyn Hollamon is in a distinctive category with 30 goals and 7 assists on the season, followed by Laela Brown with 6 goals and 5 assists.

No 2.  Newark Charter (8-0) The Patriots and Coach Stacey Spiker are putting together quite a season outscoring opponents 53-1. GK Riley Redding has 23 saves to that one goal scored. This team is full of returning players who know what it takes to get to the finals and the ultimate challenge is to figure out how to become number 1. Amanda Rattay (19 goals, 8 assists) and Audrey Nelson (11 goals, 12 assists) lead this team in that chase. They stay home this week and host Caravel Oct. 1, and St.E’s Oct. 4.

No 3. Sussex Academy (6-1) The Seahawks picked up two convincing wins this week and moved into the No. 3 spot with their record and head to head win over the Caravel Bucs. They have a challenging week ahead for sure as they travel to Indian RIver Oct. 1. While they have a one game week and it’s one game at a time, they have to know the Cape Henlopen matchup looms on the horizon. Rilyn Lehman & Shelby Manlove lead with 8 goals a piece followed by Ryan Lowe & Lente Werner with 5 each.

No 4. Caravel (6-2) The Bucs have a challenging week as they head to Newark Charter Oct. 1 at 6:30 pm and host Smyrna Oct. 3 at 7:15 pm.  They will be primetime games at night and what a showcase of Delaware Field Hockey under the lights. Katie Cole continues to lead her team with 10 goals, 7 assists followed by Carson Peace, Hailey Haynes and Sydney Holley. GK Addison Van Rensler has 14 saves on the year.

No 5 Wilmington Friends (6-1) The Quakers are having themselves a season! They will host Sanford on Tuesday. Their offense spreads the wealth as Molly Dolan, Sawyer Rowland, Sara Clothier, and Cora Lohkamp lead in goals and assists.

No. 6 Indian River (5-2) The Indians just keep playing (and winning) under Head Coach Torrie Huk, who has revived this program. They host Sussex Academy Oct. 1 and CR Oct. 3 this week. Baylie Williamson is the spark scoring 17 goals and boasting 11 assists. Ella Peterson follows up with 5 goals and 6 assists.

No. 7  St. Mark’s (5-2) The Spartans move up two spots this week as they improve to 5-2. They will face Concord Oct. 2 and St. George’s Tech Oct. 4 on the road this week. Katherine Hanich leads with 12 goals, 4 assists, and then Brynn Eyler, Alaina Papa, and Emersyn O’Leary have all chipped in 5 goals each.

No. 8 Archmere (5-3) The Auks come flying back into the top ten this week after an impressive run. Led by Maura Reed with 12 goals, 4 assists, Bernadette Patino 6 goals  and Carly Polsky 3 goals, 6 assists. They face off against Wilmington Charter this Wednesday at home.

No. 9 Lake Forest (4-3) The Spartans stay home this week to face Seaford Oct. 1 and Sussex Central Oct. 3. Brynn String and Carmella Gannon are keeping the offense alive while freshman GK Jessica Lewis has 33 saves.

No. 10  Tower Hill (4-3) The Hillers keep their head above water and the .500 mark but drop to No. 10 this week. They will host St. Andrew’s on Oct. 1. Charlotte Vanni leads in goals (10) and assists (5).
