We are two weeks into the season and teams are in full swing. This week I will update the rankings of teams after 2 weeks of play, a Bi State Challenge and the Turf Bowl at Rullo Stadium on the Campus of the University of Delaware. There are some great matchup across the state so get out and watch some field hockey as weather permits this week.
Division 1 Field Hockey
No. 1 Cape Henlopen (4-0) The Vikings are off to a great start! They have put up 16 goals, and given up only 2. Cape’s offense is led by Macy Steinwedel with 6 goals, and Mairead RIshko with 4. Goalkeeper Isabella Mekulski has 12 saves. Cape stays home this week and faces off on Sept. 17 v Polytech, 6 pm and Saturday Sept. 21 v Tower Hill 11 am.
No. 2 Milford (4-1) The Bucs move up to the 2 spot this week as they have been impressive so far. They have scored 31 goals and given up 5. Their offense is led by Hannah Zimmerman with 12 goals and 4 assists while Goalkeeper Madisoin Stahl has 12 saves. They will now go to Lake Forest on Sept. 19, 4:40 pm for what was originally set as a home game.
No. 3 Smyrna (2-2) The Eagles finished the weekend with a big win over Padua in the Turf Bowl to get back to .500/ They have outscored opponents 17 to 8. Bree Moffett leads with 7 goals, McKenna Wilson with 4 and Addison Beamer with 4 assists. Goalkeeper Nora O’Connell has 23 saves.The Eagles travel to CR to take on the Riders Sept. 17 at 5:30 pm.
No. 4 Charter School of Wilmington (2-1) The Force is off and running with leaders Alexa Guarneri with 7 goals and Adelina DiNicola with 4 assists. Strength of schedule keeps them in the 4 spot this week. They have two games this week: Sept. 17 v Tower HIll and Sept. 19 v Conrad, both 3:45 start times.
No. 5 Odessa (3-0) The Ducks start off Sept. 9 with DMA, Sept. 11 McKean, and Sept. 13 St, George’s at UD as part of the Turf Bowl. They will need to get off on the right foot this week as their season only gets tougher. The Duck are led by Sophia Ridgeway with 5 goals, 2 assists, Alessandra Taylor with 3 goals, 2 assists. Goalkeeper Makennah Bell has 10 saves.
No. 6 Middletown (2-0) The Cavaliers have started off strong and this week will be interesting as they face district rival Appoquinimink. They have outscored opponents 16-1. Team leaders are Grimm Flannery with 5 goals, Sarah Kasper 3 goals, Sara Watson 3 goals, and Layal Dukes 2 assists. This week the Cavs play Sept. 16 @ St. Andrews 3:45pm, Sept. 18 Delcastle 3:45pm, and @ Appo Sept. 20, 6 pm.
No. 7 Polytech (2-0) The Panthers undoubtedly have a tough week ahead. They face off @ No. 1 Cape Henlopen on Sept. 17, 6 pm and then host D 2 No. 1 Delmar Sept. 19 @ 4 pm. The Panthers offense is led by Addison Krout with 4 goals and Emma Carey with 3 assists.
No. 8 Caesar Rodney (2-1) The Riders also have a tough week hosting No. 3 Smyrna on Sept. 17 at 5:30 pm. Leading the Riders offense is Ella Brown with 3 goals, Addison Plews with 2 goals, and Elizabeth McCarthy with 2 assists.
No. 9 Padua (2-3) The Pandas enter this week’s top ten with a .500 record to date. They have a tough matchup this week @ Caravel Sept. 17, 6:15 pm for the “Stick It To Cancer” game. Rebekah Haney leads with 5 goals, followed by Ava King with 3 and GK Taylor Kozick has 21 saves.
No. 10 Sussex Tech (1-1) The Ravens also enter the top ten this week with a .500 record. They picked up a win over Delmarva Christian but No. 2 Milford was too much for the Ravens. They are @ Sussex Central Sept. 17 4pm, and home against Indian River 9/19 4 pm.
Division 2 Field Hockey
No 1. Delmar (4-0) The Wildcats are at it again! They have outscored opponents 23-5. Jordyn Hollamon leads with 16 goals, 3 assists and Goalkeeper Marleigh Wells has 13 saves. They host Sussex Academy on Sept. 14 at 4 pm and travel to Polytech Sept. 19, 4 pm.
No 2. Caravel (4-0) The Bucs are off to a fantastic start this season with 4 shutouts and they have outscored opponents 32-0. Katie Cole leads the offense (6 goals 5 assists), Carson Peace (5 goals) and Hailey Haynes added 4 assists. Experienced goalkeeper Addison Van Rensler has 10 saves on the season. This week they host Padua Sept. 17 at 6:15 for the “Stick it to Cancer” game and travel to Sussex Academy 9/19 5:30pm.
No 3. Newark Charter (3-0) The Patriots are off to another great start this season. The steady play of Amanda Rattay(9G, 2A) and Audrey Nelson (4G,3A) have them leading the team in goals and assists respectively, They will be tested with 3 games this week Sept. 17 Concord, 6:30pm, Sept. 19 MOT Charter 3:45pm, and Saturday Sept. 21 @ Tatnall 11 am.
No 4. Wilmington Friends (2-1) The Quakers are led by Molly Dolan with 4 goals and Cora Lohkamp with 4 assists on the season. This week they will take on St. Andrew’s Sept. 17 4pm and go to Wilmington Christian Sept. 19 3:15 pm.
No 5. Sussex Academy (3-0) The Seahawks are playing well and have defeated two Division 1 top ten teams in Smyrna and Wilmington Charter. Shelby Manlove leads with 4 goals, Rilyn Lehman has 2 goals and 2 assists. They will continue to be tested this week with Sept. 17 at No.1 Delmar 4 pm and Sept. 19 they host Caravel at 5:30pm.
No.6 Tower Hill (3-0) The Hillers go on the road this week with some tough opponents. Sept. 17 at Wilmington Charter 3:45 pm, Sept. 19 at Tatnall 4 pm, and at Cape Henlopen Saturday Sept. 21 at 11 am. Charlotte and Ella Vanni lead the Hillers in goals and assists. Charlotte with 7 goals, 4 assists and Ella with 3 goals and 2 assists.
No 7. Lake Forest (1-1) The Spartans had a tough first game against Cape Henlopen but rebounded to defeat Woodbridge. They are led by Carmella Gannon with 2 goals. This week the Spartans stay home and take on Laurel Sept. 17, 4:30 pm and Milford Sept. 19, 4:30 pm.
No 8. Indian River (2-1) The Indians break into the top ten this week as they are off to a good start. The only loss they have is to powerhouse Delmar. Baylie Williamson(5 goals, 5 assists), Ella Peterson (2 goals, 5 assists), and goalkeeper Jazmin Mayfield (26 saves) lead the Indians into week 3. Sept. 17 home v Conrad 4 pm and Sept. 19 they travel to Sussex Tech 4 pm.
No 9. St. Mark’s (1-1) The Spartans sit at .500 with an unreported score from the Turf Bowl v Archmere. With only one game this week at William Penn Sept. 16 3:30 pm the Spartans need to stay focused this week. Katherine Hanich (3 goals, 1 assist), Emersyn O’Leary (2 goals) and goalkeeper Catherine Jones (9 saves) lead the Spartans into week 3.
No. 10 Tatnall (2-2) The Hornets are hanging on in the Top 10 this week but have a challenging week ahead. Sept. 19 they host Tower Hill at 4 pm and Saturday Sept. 21 they host Newark Charter at 11 am. Anastasia Tsatsaronis (4 goals, 1 assist), Paige Hiller (3 goals, 2 assists), and goalkeeper Sophia Sirotinin-Remmel (22 saves) lead the Hornets.
