The Buccini Pollin Group celebrated the grand opening of their local grocery store, Pretty Eddie’s Market, on December 10, 2025.

WILMINGTON — The Buccini Pollin Group officially opened the doors of Pretty Eddie’s Market to the Wilmington community in a grand opening ceremony, Wednesday afternoon. The store aims to fill a need for members of the downtown Wilmington community looking for an easily accessible and walkable place to find a little bit of everything.

“Pretty Eddie’s was created to meet the daily needs of the downtown Wilmington neighborhood, offering both everyday essentials and thoughtful extras,” said Robert Buccini, co-founder of the Buccini Pollin Group, via a press release.

Pretty Eddie’s resides at 730 N. Market St. near Farmer & The Cow and just down the street from Bardea Food & Drink. The store sits alone as the only grocery store within walking distance for those living in apartment complexes like The Press and The Residences at Rodney Square. The store front Pretty Eddie’s now inhabits was vacant for over five years.

“I moved here two years ago, and I don’t drive, so it’s a little inconvenient. And I’ve been really waiting for this grocery store,” said Sally Kupchock, a resident of the area. “I’m very happy about this.”

Kupchock was one of many community members that braved a little bit of rain to check out the store after the ceremonial ribbon was cut by Buccini and his team. The 2,000 square foot store was packed full of community members taking a look at all the offerings and sampling some of what the store has to offer.

The shelves were stocked with fresh produce, snack items, and normal pantry essentials like pasta sauce and canned foods. The store has a frozen food section in the back as well as cleaning supplies and pet food. There is a deli counter where customers can get deli meats and order sandwiches to sit and eat — there is a small seating area attached to the counter. Customers can also purchase coffee from the store’s coffee bar or small flower arrangements.

“The concept for Pretty Eddie’s was to create a fresh take on the traditional corner store, combining the charm of a local market with the ease of modern convenience,” Buccini said in the press release. “Through various partnerships, our business model allows us to pass on savings to our customers, preserving accessibility and variety without compromising on quality.”

Pretty Eddie’s partnered with ShopRite to help keep their shelves stocked with affordable products throughout the store. The store also features many items from local vendors including the floral arrangements which were supplied by The Bloom Wagon — a company based in Wilmington. Pretty Eddie’s worked with Artisan Exchange and the Wilmington Kitchen Collective to help find local vendors for their store.

Kupchock purchased a package of vegetable dumplings and a rotisserie chicken amongst other things, but said she’d have to come back when the store wasn’t so busy to peruse some more. Kupchock said she enjoyed the selection of products available, and was surprised they had “unusual” selections like the vegetable dumplings.

“It’s open seven days a week, so I can come over anytime, and especially with the fresh vegetables and fruit, fresh bread, things that I can’t stock up on when I go to a bigger grocery store, you know… it’s just nice,” Kupchock said.

The store is open seven days a week. Pretty Eddie’s opens at 10:30 a.m. and closes at 7:30 p.m. everyday, except for Sunday. On Sundays, the store will be open from 10:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.

There is a current promotion that will run until the end of the year where customers will receive a free tote bag if their purchase is $50 or more, according to the press release. Patrons can also join “The Pretty Chicken Club” and earn a free rotisserie chicken following the purchase of ten.
