Padua continued its dominance at the DIAA State Cross Country Championships Saturday at wind-swept Brandywine Creek State Park. The Pandas placed five runners in the top ten to win their 9th straight D1 girls team title with a score of 27, forty nine points better than second place Charter of Wilmington (76 points).
Mary Dorsey and Sophia Holgado finished 1-2 to lead the Pandas with times of 20:01 and 20:25 respectively. Geneva Laur came in 5th, followed by Kelsey Wolff and Julia Querey at 9th and 10th. Teammates Mary Flanagan and Jane Mazzeo medaled with 14 and 15 place finishes to complete an excellent showing for coach Marnie Giunta.
Appoquinimink’s Cortney Candy took 3rd place (21:07) followed by Caesar Rodney runner Hannah Zura (21:12). The rest of the top 15 medalists were as follows:
Laur (Padua) at 21:14:40, Katie Kuhlman of Cape (21:15:10), Maria Lombardi from Charter (21:32), Claire Andreasen also from Charter (21:48), Padua’s Wolff and Querey at 21:52 and 21:57, Alyssa Young from Smyrna was 11th at 22:03, followed by Isabelle Walsh from Middletown at 22:15, then Madison Crossley (CR) with a time of 22:24, with Padua’s Flanagan and Mazzeo with times of 22:29 and 22:31.
