The weather outside this week feels like spring which means that the spring sports season will kick off on March 18th.  Last year we saw Middletown and Archmere take home state champion trophies in girls soccer.  The teams have been practicing for almost 3 weeks and are ready to start the season.  The preseason top 10’s in girls soccer has never been easy and they won’t be this time around but this is how Delaware Live has them to start the season.

 

Division 1

No. 1 Middletown  The defending champs will have to replace a few key spots including in goal where they excelled last year.  They play in the tough Blue Hen Conference plus they have some tough non conference matches with Archmere, DMA, Padua, Saint Mark’s, Smyrna, and Wilmington Charter.  

 

No. 2 Appoquinimink  The Jags made it to the State Championship, falling 4-2 to Middletown.  The Jags had a 12-3 record in the regular season.  They have a tough conference schedule plus matches with Caravel, St Mark’s, Padua, and Wilmington Charter. 

 

No.3 Smyrna The Eagles had a solid season going 11-4 in the regular season and lost to Appoquinimink in the semifinals. The Eagles non conference schedule is loaded this year with Middletown, Padua, Sussed Academy, Saint Mark’s, and Caravel. 

 

No.4 Padua. The Pandas fell to Middletown in the semifinals after a 9-4 regular season and 10-5 overall.  They have a very tough schedule with matches against Middletown, Appoquinimink, Caravel, Smyrna, St Mark’s, Archmete, and Indian River. 

 

No. 5 Polytech The Panthers had a solid regular season finishing 12-3 and losing to Padua in the quarterfinals. They have a tough conference schedule plus matches with Odessa, Saint Mark’s, Sussex Academy and Indian River.

 

No. 6 Odessa The Ducks move up from Division 2 this year and look to continue their strong play.  They went 13-2 and lost to Saint Mark’s in the quarterfinals.   They have a tough conference schedule and then face Archmere and Polytech in key non-conference matches.

No. 7 Cape Henlopen  The Vikings went 8-6-1 last year and just missed out of the state tournament.  They play in the tough Henlopen North and will also take their annual trip to North Carolina this year for a pair of matches.

 

No. 8 Delcastle  The Cougars had an outstanding season last year going 12-3 and making the quarterfinals of the state tournament losing to Smyrna,  Along with their tough conference schedule they have Wilmington Charter, DMA, and Concord in non conference matches.

 

No. 9 St Georges Tech  The Hawks had a solid season last year going 8-4-3 and making the state tournament where they lost to Middletown in the first round.  They will have their tough conference schedule and a tough non conference match with Brandywine for schedule.

 

No. 10 Milford  The Bucs went 9-6 last year in the tough Henlopen North conference.  They will look to have another solid season this year.  They have non conference matches with Odessa, Laurel and Newark Charter

 

Division 2

No. 1 Caravel  The Bucs finished 13-1-1 last year in the regular season and made it to the semifinals.  They have key matches with Saint Mark’s Appoquinimink, Wilmington Charter, Ursuline, Padua, and Sussex Academy.

 

No. 2 Saint Mark’s  The Spartans went 13-2 in the regular season last year and made it to the championship.  They have key matches with Padua, Caravel, Archmere, Friends, and Smyrna ,

 

No. 3 Friends  The Quakers went 13-1-1 in the regular season and made it to the semifinals of the state tournament. They play their Independent conference schedule.  Their non conference schedule  They have Archmere, Saint Mark’s, and Conrad in the non conference schedule. 

 

No. 4 Archmere  The Auks are the defending state champions after an outstanding season.  They were 12-3 in the regular season and then defeated Caravel in the semis and Saint Mark’s in the state championship.  They play their Diamond State conference schedule.  They also have Padua, Saint Mark’s, Middletown, Ursuline and Friend;s in their non-conference schedule.

 

No. 5 DMA  The Seahawks had a great season last year going 11-4-1 and making the quarterfinals in the state tournament.  They play their Diamond state conference members and then they have Ursuline, Sanford, Tower Hill, and Middletown on their non-conference schedule.

 

No. 6 Sussex Academy  The Seahawks had an outstanding season going 12-3 in the regular season and making the quarterfinals. They play their Henlopen South schedule and we have one of the toughest non-conference schedule.  They play Cape Henlopen, Smyrna, Wilmington Charter, Saint Mark’s, and Caravel.

 

No. 7 Indian River  The Indians went 10-4-1 last season and made it to the quarterfinals.  They play in the Henlopen South.  They have key non-conference matches with Padua, Middletown, and Appoquinimink.

 

No. 8 Brandywine  The Bulldogs went 12-3 last season and made the state tournament.  They play their Blue Hen conference Flight B schedule.  They play non-conference matches with Cape Henlopen, Caesar Rodney, St Georges Tech, and Friends.

 

No. 9 Delmar  The Wildcats went 9-5-1 last year in the regular season and made the state tournament.  They play their Henlopen South schedule.  They also have key non-conference matches with Brandywine, DMA, Milford, Caesar Rodney, and Smyrna.

No. 10 Conrad  The Red Wolves went 9-6 last season and made the state tournament.  They play their Diamond State conference and also play Ursuline and Tower Hill in the non conference.
