(Dover, DE) The MOT Little League began play in the 1950’s, and until this year has never had a team advance to a world series. In a matter of days, the proud program has two teams headed to a world series. The girl’s senior division softball all-stars won the Eastern Regional in New England and will stay in Delaware playing at Lower Sussex. Thursday night the boys’ 50/70 Intermediate all-stars won their regional in Dover and will travel to California for the series that starts Sunday.

Jordyn Brown pitched a complete game shutout, allowing just 3 hits while recording 12 strikeouts in the 2-0 victory over Vineland, NJ. Both pitchers were outstanding. Drew Sutton from New Jersey allowed 4 hits, one walk, one hit-batter, and struck out 11. The game was scoreless until the fourth inning. With one out, Charlie Koch reached on a third strike passed ball. He advanced to second base on a wild pitch, and scored on a 2-out single by Miles Clark. Nathan Collins followed with a double to left field to bring Clark home to give Brown all the run support he needed. Colton Murray and A-J Nichols had the other hits for MOT as both singled up the middle in the late innings.

The first four days of the regional Dover was pretty much precipitation-free, but Wednesday it rained most of the day. The ground crew from Dover Little League performed admirably Wednesday and Thursday to get the field in playing condition. The team from New Jersey eliminated Pennsylvania Thursday morning and was scheduled to face MOT at 1:00, but a downpour delayed the start till 3:45. The two teams played until the middle of the third when another rain cell drenched the field. This time it took until 8:11 to resume play. Once again, the field crew did an outstanding job “dressing” the field. Tournament director Steve Lappert and his team of volunteers hosted a tremendous regional, and all should be commended for their efforts.

MOT advances to the world series beginning July 28 in Livermore, California, south-west of San Francisco.
