You barrel into the grocery store, pick up everything on your list and as you’re heading toward checkout, you remember you left your stack of reusable bags in the car.

Practice makes perfect and the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control staff wants to help you succeed.
It’s handing out free DNREC-branded reusable bags Friday in New Castle County to publicize the state’s latest move away from the flimsy plastic bags that so often turn into litter.
As of July 1, 2022, plastic film carryout bags will no longer be available at any retail stores in the state, including drug stores and dollar stores. Some stores may offer reusable bags or paper bags.
New Castle County residents who want a free DNREC bag can get one Friday at 1 p.m. at the ShopRite of Christina Crossing, 501 South Walnut Street, Wilmington. (Chris Kenny, whose family owns area ShopRite stores, is the owner of Delaware LIVE).
DNREC Secretary Shawn M. Garvin and DNREC staff will be there to hand out bags.
Bags also will be given out at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, June 2 at the Gateway West Food Lion, 1030 Forest Avenue, Dover.
The Sussex County location hasn’t yet been announced.
