The awards keep coming for Delaware Technical Community College’s men’s lacrosse program.
Fresh off of winning the 2022 NJCAA Region 19 Men’s Lacrosse Championship, Delaware Tech sophomore Jack Dennis was named Region 19 Player of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year, and All-Region. Joining Dennis in receiving NJCAA Region 19 All-Region honors are sophomore Conor Christie, sophomore Matt Kracyla, and freshman Brandon Tice.
In addition, Head Coach Sean Tischler was named NJCAA Region 19 Coach of the Year for guiding Delaware Tech to a 9-4 record during the regular season and to the College’s first Region 19 championship in 8 years.
Dennis transferred to Delaware Tech in 2021 and in his lone season left a huge mark on the program. Standing 6-feet, 6-inches tall, Dennis routinely outmuscled opponents and launched lightning-fast balls toward the opposing goalie. Including the two playoff games, Dennis finished his season with 56 goals, 27 assists, 83 points, and 35 ground balls.
“He is not only clearly the best player on the field on most fields he steps foot on, but he is one of the hardest workers and an absolute joy to be around,” Tischler said. “We were so lucky to have him fall in our lap.”
“It’s pretty cool after not playing for two years, I was able to come back and play the game I love,” Dennis said. “This team is like another family to me. Everyone really came together this year.”
Christie and Kracyla finish their Delaware Tech careers as two-time all-region players. Christie led the team in scoring this year with 58 goals and set a new school record with 89 points. Kracyla was fourth in scoring with 36 goals and added 14 assists and 27 ground balls. Meanwhile, Tice finished his first season with 48 goals, 10 assists, and 34 ground balls.
“I am so happy for them because they put so much work into it,” Tischler said.
Tischler downplayed his coaching award, but the proof is in the results. This is only the second time in the past 10 years that the team finished with at least 10 wins, and just three seasons ago the program was forced to play at the club level due to low numbers.
“If this team was 5-5, I’m not Coach of the Year, so really, I look at it as we are Team of the Year,” Tischler said. “However, I do have two phenomenal guys who work with me (assistant coaches Franc Cook and Dan Yearick) who are fantastic coaches, and it’s obviously nice to be recognized by your peers.”
Four Delaware Tech men’s lacrosse players and the team’s head coach received recognition from Region 19.
