“No Shame” Convention for New Castle County

We are organizing this event to bring together political leaders, community groups, and family members or supporters of incarcerated veterans to highlight the services that are available or need to be made available to justice involved veterans. Personally, we know of the struggles that we, the walking wounded, suffered as a result of war and the negative impact our post-service conduct had upon our families and community. We are organized to help alleviate this situation.

We know that there are political leaders who have been fighting in the trenches to help our veterans access the resources that our returning veterans need. The purpose of this event is to let community leaders and family or friends know that they are not alone, that there are political leaders who are willing to, able to, and have fought in the legislative trenches for our walking wounded veterans. Secondarily, we would like to take this opportunity to highlight the hard battles that our friends in both state and federal legislatures have fought and to give our leaders the recognition that they have earned. We feel it is way past due and we would like to have the opportunity to let the citizens of Delaware know how we feel about them.

The entire event will be at the Rt. 9 library. We are setting up to broadcast this event through zoom and Facebook. We are inviting you because you have shown unflinching courage in reporting upon prison or court issues. We have a block of time from 1200hrs to 1600hrs. As speakers are confirmed we will modify the agenda to accommodate them. However, we are reserving 15 minute blocks of time for Sen. Carper, Sen. Coons, Rep. Blunt Rochester, Lt. Gov. Hall-Long (all four who have not yet confirmed a time), County Executive Matt Meyers, and President Congo and fellow Wilmington City Council Members (Darby, Gray, Oliver, Harlee, Fields), and Councilman Mills (and his brother Rep. Chukwuocha) all of whom be attending.
