Bike Delaware Announces the Second Annual Everyone Gets Home Summit

Dover, DE – The 2nd annual Everyone Gets Home Summit – organized by Bike Delaware – will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2023 in Dover. 165 people died in traffic crashes in Delaware last year, which made 2022 the deadliest year for people trying to get around in the First State since Ronald Reagan was the president of the United States. Starting at 8:45 am and finishing by 3:30 pm, the Summit is an opportunity to hear about ideas and solutions from local and national experts and is also an opportunity to network, share and connect with other people passionate about saving lives.
“What we know – but the general public often has a hard time understanding – is that building new infrastructure (in the U.S., anyway) is a slow (sometimes grindingly slow) process. That makes transportation professionals – by experience and perhaps by temperament as well – often unresponsive to impatient words like ‘crisis’”, said James Wilson, Executive Director of Bike Delaware. “But if Martin Luther King’s words about the ‘fierce urgency of now’ were ever going to resonate with Delaware’s transportation engineering and planning community, the present moment – with all the grief and tragedy we are seeing on Delaware’s roads – seems like it would be the time.”
Among the many other sobering facts about Delaware’s traffic safety crisis is that crashes are the 2nd leading cause of death of adolescents.
