Delaware School for the Deaf 5k Walk/Run and Expo
September 24 @ 8:30 am - 2:00 pmFree
Deaf Awareness Week happens during the third full week of September each year which is September 18-24, 2022 this year. There will be events around and we wanted to let you know about 2 big events happening at the Delaware School for the Deaf in Newark on September 24.
The school will be having a 5k walk/run fundraiser which is being coordinated by Mary Hicks. They have been doing this for a few years now and helps fund statewide activities which Mary can explain more if needed. I believe registration starts around 8 or 8:30am and usually ends by 10am or so.
Once the 5k awards end, there will be a Delaware Deaf Expo inside the school from 10:15ish-2pm. It will feature deaf friendly businesses including deaf owners/businesses. We also have food vendors attending. Children’s activities will be provided as well. Currently the expo expects roughly 30 vendors or so.
We would love to have you guys come out and write an article on the events or whichever works best for you guys.
Most of the info can be found at https://www.delawaredeaf.org/links/expo-2022. The 5k walk/run is at https://www.dsdeaf.org/apps/pages/index.jsp?uREC_ID=309087&type=d.
In the past, the 5k walk has had at least 100 participants before covid hit. Delaware Expo had 300 people 2 years ago, 1 month before covid hit us. We hope to see good crowds again which makes this newsworthy and do feel free to contact either me (Feta) or Mary with more questions. I should add that this is the first time we are coordinating both events on the same day to raise awareness.
