DMA outlasts Sussex Central

Delaware Military Academy defeated Sussex Central 13-10 Monday night at Wilson Field. DMA totaled nine hits in the game while Sussex Central collected ten hits in the high-scoring affair. 

Sussex Central opened up the scoring in the first inning after back to back walks to AJ Cannon and TJ Morris, Brendan Anderson homered to center field for a three run home run. The Golden knights tacked on another run in the second inning when Jarret Wilkins drew a leadoff walk and eventually scored giving the Golden Knights a 4-0 lead after two innings. 

Delaware Military Academy answered right back in the top of the third inning. Peyton Brannock reached on an error, then Drew Simpson drew a walk. Tyler August crushed a ball that went off the glove of TJ Morris at the wall in center field as he cruised into third base for a triple scoring both Brannock and Simpson.Tyler eventually scored on a pass ball bringing the score to 4-3 Golden Knights. 

Central answered right back in the bottom of the third inning. Colin Tucker got the inning started with a single to left field. He then stole second base, but was knocked in on a triple by Zimir Gardner. Freshman Brayden Tidwell knocked in Gardner from third on one of his two hits in the game, pushing the lead to 6-3 in favor of Sussex Central.

DMA tied things up with a big fifth inning. The Seahawks sent five players across the plate in an inning highlighted by a Logan Wiley smacked a bases loaded triple driving in three runs and eventually scoring himself. Giving the Seahawks their first lead of the game 8-7.

Sussex Central answered right back with three runs in the fifth inning. Gardner and Tidwell got things started with back to back singles. Both players eventually scored along with Reif Steen who also singled in the inning taking the lead back 9-8. 

Trailing in the top of the sixth inning DMA scored two runs on a passed ball and a Wiley sac fly. Then added three more runs in the seventh to solidify the 13-10 victory. 

Brannock went 3 for 5 scoring one run and an RBI. Wiley went 2 for 4  scoring a run with four RBI’s at the plate to lead the Seahawks offensively

Reif Steen, Cannon, Tidwell, and Gardner all managed multiple hits while Anderson added 3 RBI’s for the Golden Knights. 

Drew Simpson earned the victory on the hill for DMA. He went two and two-thirds innings, allowing one run on two hits, striking out five and walking one. 

DMA improves to 6-1 on the season with the victory. Their next game is this Thursday as they travel to Middletown to face the Cavaliers at 3:45 P.M.

Sussex Centrals drops to 6-1 suffering their first loss of the season. Central will make the trip back up north for their next game this Saturday as they play Caravel in a night game at Frawley Stadium with a start time of 7 P.M. This game will be live on our Youtube channel LINK
