No. 2 seed Delmar beats Friends 4-3 to win 9th straight Div. II DIAA Field Hockey title

FINALS

No. 2 Delmar defeated No. 4 Wilmington Friends 4-3 in a high-scoring game on Saturday to win the state championship for the ninth straight year. Laela Brown scored the game-winning goal with just minutes left. Jordyn Hollamon scored three goals for Delmar. Ella Fontanazza led the Quakers with two goals. Congratulations to the champs on a terrific season!

SEMIFINALS

No. 2 Delmar defeats No. 3 Sussex Academy 3-2. Delmar needed an overtime win to advance to the state championship game as Jordyn Hollamon scored all three goals, including the game-winner. Lente Werner scored both goals for Sussex. 

No. 4 Wilmington Friends defeats No. 8 Lake Forest 2-1. Molly Dolan scored the game-winning goal in the second overtime to advance Friends to the state championship. Lila Rubano scored the other goal for Friends. 

No. 2 Delmar will face No. 4 Wilmington Friends for the Division II State Championship this Saturday at Delaware State University’s Drass Field at 1 pm. 

QUARTERFINALS

No. 8 Lake Forest Spartans upset the No. 1 Seed Newark Charter Patriots by a 1-0 score. Rylin McCloske scored the game-winning goal for the Spartans. They now advance to play No. 4 Wilmington Friends.

No. 4 Wilmington Friends defeated No. 5 Caravel 2-1. Ella Fontanazza and Sawyer Roland each scored a goal for Friends. Dina Alayin scored the only goal for Caravel. Friends now advances to play No. 8 Lake Forest.

No. 3 Sussex Academy dominated the No. 6 Archmere Auks 9-1. Ryan Lowe led Sussex with 3 goals and an assist. Meredith Schiff scored 2 goals while 3 others added a goal for Sussex Academy.  Maura Reed scored the lone goal for the Auks. Sussex Advances to play No. 2 Delmar.

No. 2 Delmar Wildcats defeated No. 7 Saint Mark’s 6-1. Laela Brown led the Wildcats with two goals while Jordyn Hollamon added 2 assists. Delmar advances to play No. 3 Sussex Academy.
