Delaware South was one of 16 teams to enter the Philadelphia Phillies Carpenters Cup Classic. They are now one of the final four teams. The first two rounds are played at F.D.R Park with the semi finals to be played at Citizens Bank Park, home of the Philadelphia Phillies. 

 

Delaware South advanced to the semi finals with two big wins over Philadelphia Public (15-3) and Inter A/C Independent (12-5) to advance and now gets an opportunity to play on a major league field at Citizens Bank. 

 

In game one against Philadelphia Public Delaware South scored 15 runs on 16 hits to come away with a 15-3 victory. Tj Morris and Jaxon Grant led the way for the south with 3 hits a piece. Morris went 3-3 with a homerun 3 runs scored and two RBI’s. Grant also went 3-3 with a double 2 runs scored and 2 RBI’s. On the mound Jimmy Breen got the win. He struck out 6 batters over 3 innings allowing 2 hits and 2 earned runs. 

 

In game two Delaware South opened up the game scoring 7 runs in the top of the first inning en route to a 12-5 victory. Timothy Hitchcock led the way on offense going 3-3 with 1 run scored and 2 RBI’s. Seven other Delaware south players added hits to total 10 in the game. On the mound Jeremy Vest, Sean Keener, and Jimmy Breen each went 3 innings with Vest getting the win. 

 

The Phillies wrap up a weekend series Sunday against NL East divisional opponent New York Mets then hit the road against the Chicago Cubs. Monday morning at 12:30PM Delaware South will take the field at Citizens Bank Park against Tri-Cape with a chance to advance to the championship. Tri-Cape has won the Carpenters Cup Classic the last two years, Delaware South will be looking to end that run.
