Delaware South fell to Tri-Cape Monday afternoon at Citizens Bank Park. Delaware lost 6-5 in the semifinals of the Carpenter’s Cup Classic to last year’s Champion.
Delaware had a 5-4 lead for 4 ½ innings before Tri-Cape took the lead for the victory. They scored 2 runs in the top of the first inning after a leadoff walk from Jace Jarmon. Chase Timmons knocked him in with an RBI single followed by a double down the right field from Kade Hall putting Delaware South up 2-0. Tri-Cape answered with 2 runs of their own to tie the game at 2.
Next inning South answered again as Jace Jarmon doubled in Austin Griffith and Kameron Tindley adding 2 more runs 4-2. Then Roman Keith put one into the outfield for a sacrifice fly that scored Kobe Tindley to plate another run. But Yen Rodriguez provides an answer for Tri-Cape, belting a double to the wall to drive in a pair and get his team back within one 5-4
In the bottom of the 4th inning Tri-Cape took its first lead of the ballgame with a blast off the bat of Robert Carfagno as he lifted one over the wall in left field to score Rodriguez and put his side ahead by one which proved to be the game winner 6-5.
Jarmon led Delaware offensively going 1-2 scoring a run and knocking in 2 RBI’s. Chase Timmons also added a hit, a run, and an RBI. Chase Fleming got the start on the mound he went 2 innings allowing 4 runs, 2 being earned with strikeouts. Noah Burroughs went 1.2 innings allowing 2 runs with 1 strikeout, and Jimmy Breen went 2.1 innings adding 4 strikeouts. Burroughs would eventually take the loss.
Fleming said playing and pitching at citizens bank “It Was a really cool experience.” Then we asked him what were the biggest differences he thought there were from playing on high school fields he said “the stands go up so high it’s hard to track some fly balls and the field looks so much bigger then it actually is and the pitching mound was so much better then a high school mound.”
Tri-Cape has won the Carpenter’s Cup Classic for two consecutive years. They will face Jersey Shore Tuesday morning at 9:30am for the 2023 Carpenter’s Cup Classic championship.
