Coming into Tuesday night’s contest, the Appoquinimink Jaguars were 2-0 with wins over Hodgson and William Penn.

In both of those matchups the Jaguars scored 79 points and gave up 68 or more points.

That was not the case against Mount Pleasant on Tuesday.

Appo got off to an early lead and never looked back as they let their defense do the talking. The Jags held Mount Pleasant to 9 first-half points and a total of 28 for the entirety of the game. The lead was 16 at the half with Appoquinimink leading 25-9.

Senior Demetrius Lyn-Brown led the way for the Jaguars with 14 points and sophomore Laneir Harvey chipped in with 7 points.

The Green Knights struggled mightily on the offensive side of the ball, including a poor performance from the free throw line, going 6-20 for the game as a team.

The Jaguars did a good job keeping the Green Knights on their toes with their constant switches between man-to-man and a 2-3 zone on defense, as well as using their much greater size to control the paint.

Appoquinimink was one of the final four teams unable to complete their basketball season in 2020 due to Covid-19, and the Jaguars are off to a great start in 2021.

Appoquinimink welcomes Delcastle (0-1) Friday night, and the Green Knights look to rebound at home Tuesday when they take on Concord (1-1).
