When Delawareans need a break from the daily grind, many are turning to the peaceful trails and pastoral beauty of Brandywine Creek State Park.
According to a new survey conducted by A Mission for Michael, Brandywine Creek State Park in Wilmington has been named the most relaxing location in the state for nature therapy.
The survey, which gathered responses from over 3,000 residents, asked locals to name their favorite places to find solitude, calm, and connection with nature.
Brandywine topped the list, praised for its shaded walking paths, old stone walls, and tranquil river views. Despite being close to the city, the park offers a surprising sense of escape, with many respondents describing it as feeling “more Vermont than Delaware.”

Second on the list was Trap Pond State Park in Laurel, home to one of the northernmost bald cypress swamps in the U.S. Survey participants highlighted the quiet magic of early morning canoe trips, where mist rises off the mirror-like water and cypress knees protrude from the surface like fingers of an ancient forest.
Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge in Smyrna rounded out the top three, appreciated for its sweeping wetlands, birdwatching opportunities, and open skies.
The results reflect a growing trend toward nature-based stress relief.
With modern life often described as hectic and overwhelming, more people are finding that a walk in the woods—or a moment by still water—can offer much-needed calm.
An infographic accompanying the survey breaks down the results further and highlights the most commonly mentioned features that promote relaxation: water, solitude, greenery, and silence.
