Bones Hyland reps Delaware proud at NBA Combine

Patrick GaryantesHeadlines, Sports

While NBA fans got themselves ready for the Conference Finals this week, most of Delaware & fans of lottery bound teams turned their attention to the NBA Draft Combine.  The six-day event started Monday, June 21 & will run through Sunday June 27th, in Chicago.

The story of the week has been Delaware’s own Nah’Shon “Bizzy Bones” Hyland and his tremendous performance during drills & scrimmages.

The national hype train started up Thursday afternoon when Bones lit up scrimmage #1 at the Combine.  He scored 17 points, pulled down 6 boards, & dished out 4 dimes.  Those numbers were the most impressive out of any of the other prospects in either scrimmage.

The performance put Bones in the “riser” category according to multiple national draft experts. See below for tweets from some of them!

Hyland didn’t just help himself in the scrimmage portion of this week’s combine.  His measurables helped his case for being taken in the first round as well.  He measured at 6’3.5” tall with a 6’9” wingspan.

The wingspan is something that will surely help convince NBA scouts that he can play either as a primary ball handler or off the ball.  It also shows that his defensive potential & ability to create deflections is legit!  For reference, Rajon Rondo is shorter 6’1” but has the same wingspan which has allowed him to compete against taller guards for years as one of the most respected defenders in the NBA.

Bones also tallied the quickest time among guards at the ‘lane agility’ drill with a time of 10.53 seconds.  This shows that the quickness you see in his tape is legit & has a chance to translate into the league.

If we want to talk about player comparisons, Hyland has a few that have been thrown around.  Mike Schmitz of ESPN & Draft Express compared him to Knicks standout rookie from this past season, Immanuel Quickley.  This comparison is pretty legit & in the tweet below, you can see the side by side comparison of the two players, who are actually friends from their younger days!

NBADraft.net has Bones rated as the 19th best prospect overall, and lists his comparison as Jordan Clarkson, the 2021 6th Man of the Year!  A few other comparisons that have been seen online & talked about are Lou Williams, and J-Crossover himself, Jamal Crawford, who Bones caught the eye of on Thursday as seen below.

Right now, not many viewable mock drafts have been updated.  There are updated versions on ESPN+ & other pay to read sites.  Having said that, based on the feedback and hype on twitter the past few days, it’s safe to say Bones Hyland is on the map after his performance.  As a State we celebrated Donte Divincenzo when he went 18th overall in 2018.  I think it’s safe to say that we should get prepared to celebrate again for an early selection come July 21st NBA Draft!
