Ā As new COVID-19 cases popped up slightly and more cases of the UK strain believed to be more infectious have been found, state officials still want residents to follow guidelines and to be tested.

The state and others will offer 32 pop-up testing sites the week of Feb. 15.

Six cases of the COVID-19 variant SARS-CoV-2 B.1.1.7 have been found in Delaware, the Division of Public Health said Friday.

It’s the same strain of the virus that was blamed in Britain for rapidly rising cases and the country locking down again at the end of 2020. The Delaware cases include five adults ranging in age from 18-65, as well as a child under the age of 10. Four of the people were from New Castle County and two were from Kent County.

Public Health said the seven-day average of new cases rose slightly to 397 as of Thursday. Officials were worried the cases would rise after many people gathered to watch the Super Bowl Feb. 7.

The state has had Ā 82,263 cases since March 11, 2020.

The seven-day average for the percentage of persons who tested positive was 21.4%, up from 20.9% a week before. The seven-day average for the percentage of total tests that were positive was 6.1%, a full point below the previous week’s 7.2%.

On Friday, 247 individuals were hospitalized, down 43 from the previous week, with 23 in critical condition.

The state said 1,269 Delawareans have died from the virus.
