Appo’s big inning downs Red Lion

No. 4 Appoquinimink defeated No. 10 Red Lion 14-3 on Wednesday thanks to an eight run sixth inning. With a 6-2 lead the Jaguars sent twelve batters to the plate in the inning scoring the eight runs on five hits in the inning to solidify the win.

Julia Weglarz had two of her three hits in that inning helping the Lady Jags defeat Red Lion. Hailey Watlington, Olivia Marinucci, Lily Papellas, Brianna Russo, Alexa Fitzgerald, and Weglarz, all knocked in runs in the sixth. 

Fitzgerald led the Jaguars going 3 for 3 driving in a run and scoring four times in the game, but Appoquinimink got a hit from all nine starters in the game. Peyton Pusey led Red Lion as she collected three hits.

On the mound Savannah Laird earned the win for Appoquinimink yielding three runs allowing five hits while striking out thirteen batters. 

Appoquinimink’s next game is tomorrow as the host Charter School of Wilmington at 4 P.M. 

Red Lion goes on the road to play Delaware Military this Saturday at 1 P.M.
