It was a chilly day for Baseball Thursday evening when Wilmington Friends and William Penn met at Frawley Stadium but the bats for the Quakers warmed things up. Starting Pitcher Peter Erskine had 2 hits including a double and Patrick McKenzie had 2 doubles and 4 RBIS to help Friends plate 7 runs in the 7-2 victory.
Peter Erskine went 6.2 innings with 13 Ks and only gave up 2 runs late in the seventh inning to earn his third win of the year. Friends struck first with a single from leadoff hitter Bennett Ross in the bottom of the second inning, scoring a very speedy Jason Hughes from second base. Next up would be Nathan Huxtable and he would follow suit with a single of his own to score Ross, who advanced to second on the throw home. Friends would hold a 2-0 lead heading into the third and wouldn’t look back from there.
The Quakers would add a run in each of the 3rd and 4th innings to take a 4-0 lead into the 5th and Erskine continued to dominate the game pitching a shutout into the 7th inning. He allowed two runners on before being relieved by Adin Shweiki, who closed out the game for Friends but not before the Colonials broke the shutout. Michael Lane would single to left with the bases loaded in the 7th inning to score two runs for the Colonials.
