Emergency sirens will sound about 10:45 a.m. today as the state does a quarterly test of the system that would alert Delawareans to a problem with the Salem and Hope Creek Nuclear Generating Stations.
The 37 sirens located within 10 miles of New Jersey’s Salem and Hope Creek plants will be activated for three to five minutes about 10:45 a.m. The siren tests will be followed by a test message of the Emergency Alert System on local radio stations.
The sirens are the same ones that would be used to alert the public if there was an emergency at either the Salem or Hope Creek. In that case, the public should to tune their radios to one of the local radio stations for important emergency instructions.
Any residents living within the 10-mile Emergency Planning Zone may contact the Delaware Emergency Management EMA at (302)659-3362 if they are in need of potassium iodide tablets.
