Ursuline’s Popham signs with Colgate Women’s Soccer

On national signing day, Ursuline soccer player Alexandra “Ali” Popham national letter of intent to play soccer at Colgate university. When we asked Ali what it was about Colgate that influenced her thinking, she said, “I made the decision to commit to Colgate because it is one of the better institutions in the country that offers a liberal arts education that I feel would challenge me. Along with academics, the Division I women’s soccer program’s constant ability to do well in the Patriot League shows their determination as a program. When looking at the school, I felt it would be a great fit for me and allow me to thrive academically and athletically.”

Ali is a goalkeeper for the Ursuline Raiders soccer team. She plans on playing the same position at Colgate. Ali explains herself as a goalie as being “an excellent shot-stopper who is very comfortable in distribution under extreme pressure.” Her freshman year of high school she played on the Ursuline Academy girls soccer team where she received first team all catholic conference. Her participation in the U.S. Soccer Developmental Academy the two past years hasn’t allowed her to play any high school sports due to the league’s rules against it. TopDrawerSoccer has her on its 2021 regional team, and she was given a three-star player rating.
