Where to be tested for COVID-19 the week of Sept. 20

The state's seven-day average for the percentage of persons who tested positive for COVID-19 increased from 6% to 7.2% as of Thursday.

As the state reports a spike in the number of daily positives, the state is monitoring hot spots, including certain zip codes in Wilmington, Newark and other areas.

The state’s seven-day average for the percentage of persons who tested positive for COVID-19 increased from 6% as of Sept. 10, to 7.2% as of Thursday, the Delaware Division of Public Health said Friday. That’s well above the 3% rate health officials want Delaware to be at to go to Phase 3 of the economy reopening.

The University of Delaware reported it had 64 positive cases among students during the week, with 34 cases along on Thursday. That’s partly because they are randomly asking hundreds of students each week to be tested whether they have symptoms or not.

And while the state has now established 19 permanent testing sites spread through the state, it will continue to do their “road shows” in areas that need more testing, said A.J. Schall Jr., directly of the Delaware Emergency Management Agency.

The state also is offering free tests for at-home testing for people over the age of 60; residents of Newark and Dover (homes to the University of Delaware and Delaware State University); Any student of UD or DSU; any residents of Wilmington, especially zip codes 19801, 19802, and 19805; New Castle residents in zip code 19720; any person who attended the Sept. 6 rodeo in Bridgeville. Tests can be ordered for entire families. To get one, go to DE.gov/hometest.
