Delaware LIVE acquires Town Square Delaware

Leading community-focused website bolsters new locally-owned, statewide media company

Delaware LIVE, a locally-owned, statewide news media company launched in an effort to combat the national takeover of Delaware news, announced today the acquisition of Town Square Delaware (TSD). Over the last decade, TSD has been a leading community-news focused website in northern Delaware.

The acquisition further expands the growing statewide, community-focused footprint for Delaware LIVE, including Milford LIVE.

Chris Kenny, founder and chairman of the board of Delaware LIVE, said the acquisition of Town Square Delaware will significantly accelerate his vision for building a statewide media platform with a focus on rich local content.

“Christy and Michael Fleming have built an extraordinarily successful business at a time when local media companies across the country are struggling and even dying,” said Kenny.  “Their success demonstrates that by focusing on and being part of the community, a media business can thrive. The addition of TSD will be a major boost to our goal of serving every neighborhood in Delaware with the most compelling and meaningful content.” Delaware LIVE plans to launch four additional Local LIVE community sites within the first 18 months.

Bryan Shupe, CEO of Delaware LIVE, said that TSD’s commitment to their community exemplifies the spirit of true journalism and that he is excited not only acquire the company but welcome their dedicated team, including Christy Fleming, into the Delaware LIVE family.

“Town Square Delaware is widely known for some of the very best community-focused coverage of both breaking news but important community happenings with schools, nonprofits, businesses and the people that make our state special,” said Shupe. “Adding TSD to the Delaware LIVE platform will greatly benefit both readers and advertisers.”

Christy and Michael Fleming, creators of Town Square Delaware, stated in a release to their readers on Saturday that Delaware Live’s vision for a locally-owned, statewide media business is exciting, and joining those efforts is clearly the right move for the long-term sustainability of TSD’s mission.

“Chris and the Delaware LIVE team share our love for Delaware and deep commitment to keeping neighbors informed and entertained with the stories that matter most,” said the Flemings. “We have loved building TSD and are so thankful to our growing audience and fantastic advertisers for all their support and encouragement over the years.  Joining Delaware LIVE is the best way for the TSD mission to continue and flourish.”
