The physicians at Bayhealth are dedicated to excellence in medicine and to providing the best care possible for our community. Physicians at Milford Memorial and Bayhealth Kent General were recently honored with Physicians of the Year awards for showing these qualities and more. The Physicians of the Year are Radiologist Daniel J. Wood, MD, at Milford Memorial, and Robert S. Fumento, MD, of Kent General.
In the almost two years Dr. Wood has been with Bayhealth, he’s established an excellent working relationship with staff and patients. “He makes our patients feel at ease during biopsy procedures; patients love him,” noted his nominator. “I’m privileged and honored to work with such great radiologists like him.”
Dr. Wood said he is grateful for the award, noting it’s reassuring to know his coworkers believe he does a great job helping patients. With a background in science, Dr. Wood wanted to combine his gift of science with the desire to help others. “The most important thing in your life is your health and the health of your loved ones, so I decided to go into the medical field to use my knowledge to try and do the most amount of good for others,” Dr. Wood said. “I just want to do the best I can every day to try and help my patients. My job in breast imaging is to find as many small cancers as I can because early detection of breast cancer gives our patients the best chance at a good outcome.”
Dr. Fumento joined the Kent Emergency Room staff in 2015, and quickly gained the respect of his colleagues. He was nominated for the award for being an approachable physician who listens to nurses and considers their opinions when making decisions. “Dr. Fumento is exactly the type of ER physician I would trust to take care of myself or my family in times of need,” a nominator wrote. “He tackles challenges with a positive outlook and is an integral member of the ER family.”
Dr. Fumento is humbled to win the award, stating it’s for his staff as much as it is for him. What drives him as a physician is resuscitating critically ill patients, and being there emotionally for patients and their family members. In terms of working at Bayhealth, Dr. Fumento appreciates the camaraderie of working with the ER nursing staff. “Since I was a young age, I’ve always wanted to help people who are injured. It’s gratifying and personally satisfying to help those in need,” Dr. Fumento said.
To find a physician, families are encouraged to call 1-866-BayDocs (229-3627) to be matched with a Bayhealth doctor.
