Abbott’s Grill Announces Corporate & Executive Chef

Staff Report

Abbott’s own Paul Gallo & Ryan Cunningham have been promoted to new roles as the company expands into a third location. With Smyrna’s only brewpub, Brick Works Brewing & Eats, slated to open in early June, Abbott’s has promoted current Chef’s Paul Gallo & Ryan Cunningham to new positions within the company in anticipation of the expansion.

Cunningham who is currently Executive Chef at Abbott’s on Broad Creek in Laurel, DE, has been named Abbott’s Corporate Chef & will oversee the menus & operations of both locations as well as Abbott’s catering division. Cunningham, a Johnson & Wales Culinary Arts graduate, has been with the organization for the majority of the time since Abbott’s flagship restaurant opened in Milford, DE in 2009 and thus was a natural choice for the position for owner Kevin Reading.

“Ryan is a very skilled chef with an infectious, positive personality” says Reading. “I look forward to his energy in this expanded role”.

Abbott’s Grill’s current Executive Chef, Gallo, has been promoted to Executive Chef & General Manager of the new brewpub in Smyrna, DE. Being a joint venture between the ownership of both Abbott’s & Mispillion River Brewing Company, the owners of Brick Works knew that the right person to spearhead the facility would be someone with a vast knowledge of both front-of-house & back-of-house operations. Gallo, who has an impressive culinary portfolio, also holds a Business Administration degree from Wesley College making him well suited for the role.

Reading goes on to say “Paul is a natural born leader & it doesn’t hurt that he’s an accomplished chef. We’re expecting great things from him in our new location”.

With Gallo’s focus mainly in Smyrna, acclaimed Chef & Restaurateur Reading is prepared to take on a larger kitchen presence at Abbott’s Grill in Milford alongside of Cunningham. The pair will work together out of the organizations “hub” to ensure that Abbott’s reputation for award winning fresh, local food & drink continues to thrive in both Kent & Sussex Counties.
