Response Computer Group is expanding their services to include internet technology services designed for both consumers and businesses. The company has been offering consumer services that include laptop and PC repair, data transfer to new computers, secure recycling of old computers, virus removal as well as servers, networking, Cloud services and more for businesses.
“Our focus has been on business-to-business and custom software applications for mid-sized businesses, such as those that have outgrown programs like Quick Books and need a more sophisticated, customized software solution,” said Randy Ennis, owner of Response Computer Group. “We resell Open Systems ERP software, which is something that cannot be purchased off the shelf. I started working with Open Systems Accounting Software back in 1983 and today, we support over 150 clients, nationwide, across 36 states and have several verticals to the software that enhance a company’s accounting solution.”
Mr. Ennis said that all technicians are Microsoft Certified professionals, trained on the latest products and solutions from Microsoft. Response Computer Group is a Microsoft Certified Solution provider, which means that they meet annual competency requirements so that they are provided exclusive access to tools, utilities, training programs and events from Microsoft. Although they have a strong presence in the business community, Mr. Ennis wants to let consumers know that their technicians can help with their computer needs as well.
Mr. Ennis was born and raised in Milford, graduating from Milford High School in 1980 and attending Delaware Technical and Community College Owens Campus. While attending Del Tech, he purchased his first computer and started writing code. He graduated from Del Tech in 1983 with an Associate’s Degree in Computer Information Systems and Accounting. He worked as a computer programmer for Delmarva Business Systems in the Young and Revel Building across from Avenue United Methodist Church.
“My role was focused on software design and development,” Mr. Ennis said. “In 1988, we formed Response Computer Group in an office located north of Milford near the Hertrich car dealership. In 2010, we built a new office and moved to our current location in the Independence Commons Business Park off of Airport Road. We find this location is more convenient for our clients as they can drive up to the front door and bring their computer in for repair.” Mr. Ennis said that he now has nine full-time employees and Response Computer Group is a full-service IT and software company.
One of the most common calls Mr. Ennis says the company has received recently deal with consumers who received a call from Microsoft or Google claiming there was a problem with their computer. The caller instructs the consumer to allow them access to their computer so they can “fix” the problem. A program is then installed that locks the computer and the caller demands a significant amount of money to fix it. Mr. Ennis said that when Response Computer Group gets those calls, the consumer often says that something didn’t “feel right.”
“Microsoft and Google are not making random calls to tell you your computer has errors,” Mr. Ennis said. “This is a scam. Hang up. You should never let anyone who randomly calls get on your computer. When you don’t pay them, you will have an infected computer with malware and viruses.” Mr. Ennis said that calls about popups, slow running computers, messages about viruses and problems after upgrading to Windows 10 are also very common.
Response Computer Group is also very honest about computer repairs. If the cost to fix your computer is more than the cost of buying a new one, they will inform you of that before doing any repairs. In addition, Mr. Ennis pointed out that consumers can upgrade to Windows 10 until July 16 for free, so he recommends upgrading now. However, the default settings for Windows 10 are bad for privacy, so he suggests contacting Response Computer Group to learn how to secure information. In addition, Mr. Ennis recommends that pictures and documents be backed up regularly on a USB drive, which can cost less than $20.
