The Sixth Annual Downtown Milford Pub Crawl has been scheduled for Thursday, March 17, St. Patrick’s Day. The Pub Crawl began in 2011 as a way to draw a younger demographic to the downtown area. The event, which began with the sale of 100 t-shirts, has grown to sales of 350, attracting people from Milford and the surrounding area. It has also become one of Downtown Milford Inc.’s favored fundraisers.
“So far, we have confirmation that 2nd Street Players, Arena’s, Beach Time Distilling, Dogfish Head Brewery and Milford Live have signed up to be sponsors,” Sara Pletcher, chairman of the committee, said. “Abbott’s Grill, Mispillion Art League, Mispillion River Brewing, The Music School of Delaware, Painted Stave Distillery and Petite Sweets have expressed a strong interest as well. We are looking for more business participation.”
Ms. Pletcher said that there have been some changes to the Pub Crawl for this year. Merchants and restaurants are being asked to pay $150 if they have a DMI membership or $200 without to have the business name placed on the back of the t-shirt. The reason for the change was to lower the price of the t-shirt for participants and allow those who do not choose to purchase a shirt enjoy the event as well. In addition, shirts will be sold differently this year.
“To control t-shirt sales and check identification of every participant, DMI will sell shirts the two Saturdays leading up to the crawl,” Ms. Pletcher said. “The location where they will be sold will be announced soon. For the first time, DMI held a shirt design contest and Rosemary Connelly of Live Cheap, Make Art Studios won. Her design will appear on the shirt and in the downtown kiosk.”
Participants will visit the participating businesses, all of which will host a brewery, winery or distillery from 5 to 8 PM in downtown Milford. The shirt is meant to be more of a novelty or tradition this year, but some merchants will offer specials or discounts only for those who purchase shirts. The price will be lower, but it has not been determined at this time how much the shirts will be. It is not required that participants purchase a shirt to enjoy the Pub Crawl, however.
