Jennifer Wiley has recently joined the Masten Realty team after taking a short break from real estate after the birth of her daughter, Eva. Ms. Wiley said that she has been exposed to real estate her entire life, working with her father, a local businessman who owns many rental properties, since she was a teenager.
Ms. Wiley was born and raised in Milford, graduating from Milford High School in 1998. She attended Delaware Technical and Community College, studying architectural design before transferring to the University of Maryland. While attending the University of Maryland, Ms. Wiley worked part time in a REMAX office for the broker who had sold the house she lived in while attending college to her parents.
“Shortly thereafter, I became an assistant to two very successful high volume realtors,” Ms. Wiley said. “I learned that I really enjoyed the process of selling real estate and decided to join their team. I got my Maryland real estate license in 2001.” Ms. Wiley decided to return to Delaware to be closer to family and because her sister was expecting her first niece. She said her father had purchased Century 21 Blue Hen Realty and she took on the responsibility of managing the Dover office. The office was sold and merged with ERA Harrington Realty in 2009.
After having her daughter, Ms. Wiley said that she returned to school, earning an LPN and RN in order to have a more consistent income. A few years later, she realized that real estate was in her blood and she returned to ERA Harrington Realty, working with Shirley Renzi until October 2015. She joined Masten Realty in November 2015. Licensed in Delaware, she is required to maintain 21-hours of continuing education every two years but Ms. Wiley says there are many more traits that go into becoming a successful realtor.
“I enjoy working with people and working through the many aspects of the real estate transaction,” Ms. Wiley said. “Real estate transactions can be complex and you have to wear many hats. Clients look to you for all kinds of advice and direction. You have to possess problem solving skills, along with contractual and local market knowledge, not to mention other traits. No real estate transaction is like another and I have always enjoyed the challenge. I love working with people and investing in our local community.”
Ms. Wiley said with the rapid growth of Milford, especially the new Bayhealth campus, the revitalization of downtown Milford as well as the possibility of a new high school, there are a lot of things happening in the town that bring many challenges to real estate agents. One of the biggest challenges she says she faces is keeping abreast of how all the new changes will affect the local real estate market. However, she says the industry provides her with many benefits as well.
“I get to work with all kinds of people and meet new challenges every day,” Ms. Wiley said. “Every transaction is always so different than the last. The learning is never-ending and it always keeps you on your toes. Purchasing a home is the American dream and being part of that experience brings such a fulfillment to me personally and professionally. There is such a reward and gratification of helping either a buyer or seller successfully accomplish their goal, securing their financial and emotional future.”
Ms. Wiley said that she joined Masten Realty because she knew, as soon as she met with them, that they were a natural fit for her. She felt that the company was actively involved in the future of Milford and that the organization had significant knowledge of the local market as well as farms and developments. Ms. Wiley said that she felt as if they were striving for the same things and joining with them aligns with her vision of Milford.
