JDG Prepares Students for Bright Futures

Milford High School Senior Russell Clayville ran for a position as a Delaware Career Association State Officer and won a position as State Historian. Russell is the current president of the Delaware Career Association (DCA) chapter at Milford High School. This organization provides opportunities for students to have real world experience in the job market.

The DCA is run through Jobs for Delaware Graduates (JDG) and focuses on career readiness skills such as interviewing, resume writing, money management, leadership, and entrepreneurship. Students are selected for JDG based upon several at-risk factors in an effort to give them the tools to be successful in the work and college world beyond high school.

Mrs. Whittaker, the current JDG teacher, works with students year round: “I must meet with each one of my JDG students over the summer at least two times. It is important that I know what each student is doing over the summer to prepare for career readiness. Some are in internships, others are working on resumes and interviewing skills. It is a year round effort.”

Dr. Kelly Green, Milford High School’s principal, expressed her congratulations to Russell as well: “Russell represents the great things we have going on here at MHS. We encourage every student here to work hard each day to achieve their dreams.”

Russell will attend state sponsored activities throughout the year, and will attend a three day Jobs for America’s Graduates Leadership Conference in Washington in December. He will also sit in on meetings at Legislative Hall with Governor Jack Markell.
