The 14-5 girls had a four o’clock tip, along with a much easier task as they battled a 6-13 Delmar squad. While Milford started a bit slow, their signature pressure defense and fast-break offense were no match for their hosts. By the time the dust had settled, the Lady Bucs retained their Southern title with a 68-32 victory. Talking with coach Leona White following the game, she was thrilled with how her team was able to close out the season on a five game winning streak.
“Our girls battled tough the whole season and we were able to accomplish our first goal of winning the south,” White stated. “Our girls have gotten tougher as the season has gone on and they really showed it tonight.”
Just three weeks ago it looked as if disaster had struck as Woodbridge came into Milford and handled them quite easily, throwing the south wide open. Talking about that game with White, she believes that it was just one of those things .
“As long as I have been coaching, that was the first time I saw a team that couldn’t do anything.” White added “That was a game we just had to put behind us, we did that and here we are, champs of the south.”
As a result of their victory the Lady Bucs will travel to Dover this Friday to compete for the Henlopen Conference title. The girls will face 16-3 Sussex Central at 6:00 pm.
