Mispillion Elementary School has made the commitment to encourage our students to make healthy choices and remain active through the Fuel Up to Play 60 program sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Dairy Council and the National Football League (NFL). As a result of the efforts of our team we have been awarded the Fuel Up to Play 60 Touchdown Award for the second consecutive year. Mispillion Elementary is the only Touchdown School in the state of Delaware.

Student Ambassadors and faculty advisors worked all year to complete the six steps needed to earn this award. Students completed several Healthy Eating Plays, a Physical Activity Play, and entered contests including the Quaker Let’s Move Contest, Team Up Contest and the It Starts with Breakfast Contest. The Mispillion team brought home the gold in the Team Up Competition.

As a Touchdown School, twenty Ambassadors and three Advisors were invited to attend the Punt, Pass, and Kick program with the Philadelphia Eagles on May 2, 2014. Our students’ participation in this event was sponsored by the NFL Dairy Farmers and the Mid-Atlantic Dairy Council.

Currently, we have six Adult Advisors which includes Joann Joseph, Bev Harp, Todd Mentzer, Vicki Campbell, Diane Brode, Daniel Chiavaroli, and Jennifer Nichols. These advisors lead the program with the help of six adult staff members: Susan Donahue, Sue Smith, Nikki Fraizer-Bordley, Rebecca Evans-Keesler, Elizabeth Luff, and Tyler Downes.

The following Mispillion students have been selected to lead the plays this year. Fifth grade: Natalie Armstrong, Jack Morris Christian Keesler-Evans, Tagen Paquette, and Chanya Wise; Fourth Grade: Madeline McGlothan, Layna Reynolds, Karma Smith, Tyler Ashton, Ariana Hinmon, Anya Philips, and Kallie Dangerfield; Third Grade: Carley Mackert, Lila Schmidt, Alex Lovett, and Samantha Cornell; Second Grade: Ericson Garcia Lopez, and Megan Johnson.

Mispillion Elementary School is very excited about the 2014-2015 school year. We recently received a $2,200 grant from Fuel Up to Play 60 to kick start healthy changes in school. The Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association provided the funds to support our walking club and kick-off event and will help promote popular choices in our cafeteria.
