The 2014 Riverwalk Freedom Festival (RWFF) Committee, along with Milford Parks and Recreation, has been busy planning the largest Riverwalk “Freedom” Festival ever, set for Friday, September 5th, Saturday, September 6 and Sunday, September. What originally started out to be a one-day event has evolved into a fun-filled, three-day event spanning the entire downtown Milford area from Walnut Street to BiCentennial Park.

“This yearly event is all about family, enjoying time together and having fun with the rest of the Milford community,” commented Chamber of Commerce for Greater Milford President Angela Dorey. “It is a great way to celebrate the end of the summer while enjoying the beautiful downtown Riverwalk area.”

Friday, September 5, a series of events will kick-off the the two-day celebration of the Freedom Festival at the 3rd Annual Operation Giveback, where Veterans and current military will be honored. Opening ceremonies begin at 5pm and activities including a Patriotic Boat Parade, military related vendors and two live bands run from until 9pm. Vendors will be offering a variety of food and beverages as the evening will conclude with Patriotic Fireworks at dusk.

Saturday, September 6, the festival will run from 9am until 5pm.  There will be over 100 craft vendors, several food vendors, BK Party Rentals Inflatable Kids Zone, Kids Korner with a dunk tank, petting zoo, pony rides, shows and games. Community favorites such as the First Responders Tug of War at 11am, the 2nd Annual Burgers-N-Beans Burger Eating Contest at noon in Bicentennial Park, the Duck Dash at 3:30 pm, free paddleboat rides and the Southern Delaware Street Rods Car Show will return.

The Cheers to Our Heroes Scavenger Hunt will be held Saturday, September 6 at 5pm to Sunday, September 7 at 1am as several Downtown Milford businesses and restaurants will be participating. Each location will have drink and food specials and there will be discounts for having a military ID. Individuals that wish to participate can stop by the CCGM booth between 10am and 4pm at the festival to pick up their entry form.

Throughout the three-day event, Milford residents and visitors have the opportunity to see what downtown Milford has to offer. Highlighting the Mispillion Riverwalk and recreational activities available along the river, the Chamber sees this festival as a fun way to promote downtown businesses, performing, culinary and visual arts in Milford. “I hope that families there that day see what I see what I look at Milford,” commented Dorey. “That Milford is a great place, with a beautiful downtown and an active business community.”

The Riverwalk “Freedom” Festival is the only event in Milford where event goers can enjoy a wonderful fireworks display.  The Chamber is currently seeking donations and sponsorships to help with the cost of the fireworks. “Donations can be anything from one dollar up, as every bit helps. If you and your family enjoy the fireworks, please help us reach our goal,” commented Jo Schmeiser, CCGM Director. “There are also many volunteer opportunities available, and it’s not only a great way to meet people, but a great way to have fun too.”

For more information concerning the fireworks or sponsorship opportunities for Operation Giveback, or any of the events on Saturday, individuals are encouraged to contact the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Milford at 422-3344. If interested in volunteering Friday or Saturday, individuals can contact Riverwalk Freedom Festival Chairperson Angela Dorey at 302-424-8459.
