Avenue Church To Host Community Event

3Avenue United Methodist Church, located on Church Street in downtown Milford, will be hosting their Annual Fall Kickoff event on Sunday, September 7. A day that begins with a sunrise service will be filled with activities and events including traditional and contemporary services, fall festival with games and live entertainment and a community dinner. In an attempt to further engage the church with the Milford community, the event will be open to the public.

The Avenue ministry in Milford has undergone several positive changes recently, welcoming Pastor Pasmore in 2013 and Youth Pastor Cliff McCall in 2012. The team has created a focus on community outreach and ministries that engage members as a whole from youth services to family groups. Originally brought on board to establish a more involved youth component to the church, McCall believes that youth ministries is but one important piece of growing the church.

“A healthy church has a good youth component but also a healthy family and community component,” said McCall. “Avenue is a community church and our members think about their community as the city of Milford, not just our church. This kickoff event will allow us to gather with others in the community and talk about how we can become a greater partner.”

Beginning at 6:30am Avenue will celebrate a new day by hosting their sunrise service on the lawn of the church in downtown Milford. That service will be contemporary as will another service at 9:30am. Two traditional services will be held that day at 8am and 11am. At noon, after all four services are held, the lawn of the Avenue church will be open to the public with inflatables for children, games, live music and a church-wide potluck picnic. Open free to the public, event attendees will have the opportunity to hear Dayne Melvin as he features acoustic rock and church favorites. At 6:30pm the church will host a community dinner as Scott McClymont, Director of Youth Ministry for the region, will discuss the many ministries Avenue Church has to offer.

“We want to reach out to the community and also use the event as an opportunity to springboard our ministries,” stated McCall. “Although going to church on Sunday is important it is only a short amount of time to engage our members’ faith. To help them grow spiritually the next step is to make that step forward on a ministry team. They are small groups where people can take their faith walk with others.” The following Sunday, September 14, Avenue Church will be hosting a Ministry Fair after the 11am service.

The event on Sunday, September 7 is open to the public and church leaders hope that the community will join Avenue members for a Sunday that is filled with activities for all family members. For more information about the event or services of the church, individuals are encouraged to contact the Avenue United Methodist Church in Milford at 302-422-8111 or visit them online at

“Avenue is an amazing church, I have never seen a church more dedicated to meeting the needs of the community,” said McCall. “It’s going to be an incredible time for fellowship as we show the abilities of our members and services.”
