Chris Young, known to many in the Greater Milford Area as Mr. Bar-B-Que, has opened a location on the corner of Rehoboth Blvd and SE 2nd St in Milford. With over 20 years of experience, Young has made a name for himself cooking pork, brisket and other barbecued foods at various locations around town and catering events. With a permanent location, he is proud to offer a family-friendly restaurant that offers Carolina-style smoked barbecue.
Young began barbecuing in Charlotte, NC as a young man as he prepared full meals for his family at the races. As word of his expertise spread, he grew his love to include community events and eventually into a business. Moving to Milford, DE to be closer to family, he brought with him his cooking trailers and continued smoking pig, chicken and beef at several locations around town. Just one year ago when Mispillion River Brewing (MRB) opened its brewery and pub off of Airport Rd, Young was asked to provide MRB customers with his famous barbecue during operating hours. His customers enjoyed his cooking but asked Young to open a location where he could be found seven days a week.
“The business started to outgrow all of the locations we were and it was really time to find a set location,” said Young. “I had people every day ask me to have a permanent location where they did not have to find me or wait for an event.”
Serving wings, brisket, sausage, pulled pork, cheese steaks, chicken and many other barbecued items, Mr. Bar-B-Que Pit Stop is open seven days a week from 11am to 8pm. All of the meat cooked is local from Colvine Bison Farm in Greenwood, DE and all of the produce used in vegetarian dishes and sides are selected from local farmers. Smoked low and slow with a mix of local hard & fruit woods, their menu features an array of famous Carolina style bbq sauce, memphis style and new chipotle sauces or baja spice rub.
“We have something for everybody,” said Young. “Casual, everyday style food made from fresh ingredients from local farms makes our menu reminiscent of Mom’s home cooking.”
Mr. Bar-B-Que Pit Stop is in the process of acquiring their liquor license and will be carrying Mispillion River Brews. MRB has already produced an imperial stout for Young named Chipped Tooth and will soon be releasing a new brown ale that features smoked grains from Young’s smoker. Mr. Bar-B-Que offers sit-in and carry out food and will soon offer delivery services that include family meals.
