“Kate is an energetic and highly-organized individual. In her first year on the faculty she has shown outstanding initiative and has initiated several outreach performances that have been successful,” said Kate M. Ransom, president & CEO of the Music School. “She is an outstanding Suzuki instructor and has gained the confidence of her students, their parents, and her colleagues on the faculty.”

A new resident of Milford, Ms. Inie-Richards is a violinist and violist, originally from Phoenixville, PA. She holds a Bachelor’s of Music from the University of Memphis and a Master’s of Music in Suzuki Pedagogy from Ithaca College. She is a graduate of Interlochen Arts Academy in Interlochen, Michigan. Ms. Inie-Richards maintains a large private studio of violin and viola students of all ages. A member of the Music School’s Suzuki violin/viola faculty, Ms. Inie-Richards will continue teaching in addition to serving as Milford Branch Director.

“I am a dedicated Suzuki violin and viola teacher,” Ms. Inie-Richards said, “and I really want to help develop programs for students of all ages, from our littlest ones in the Early Childhood music classes all the way up to our adult and senior students.”

In addition to improving students’ performance in school, Inie-Richards believes that music teaches children many important life skills such as listening, discipline, focus, respect and perseverance. she explains that by instilling a love for music at a young age, parents can provide children with a gift that can be cultivated throughout their lives.

“Whether you choose to play, teach, perform or listen to music the impact is still very meaningful,” commented Inie-Richards. “music is an invaluable part of our lives as it allows us to express and communicate in ways that words cannot.”

Inie-Richards is excited to begin the new position as she will assist in developing the music scene in Southern Delaware. This fall, the Music School of Delaware will offer three early childhood classes for some of their youngest students ages 18 months to six years as well as two brand new group classes in violin and guitar for children ages six to ten. Inie-Richards will also be developing and growing the First State Youth Orchestra which is based in Dover.

“I am thrilled to begin the position, and am very excited to continue growing the Music School of Delaware in Kent and Sussex counties,” she said. “Everyone in the local Milford community has been very welcoming and I am looking forward to working with the local businesses and individuals to help develop and build the music scene even more.”

The only statewide, accredited, community music school in the nation, the Music School of Delaware serves residents of Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland. Ines-Richards plans to grow and strengthen the music scene not only in Milford but also in all of Kent and Sussex Counties through the satellite locations and planned outreach efforts.

“I love teaching, and have a passion for working with students of all ages, stated Ines-Richards. “As a Suzuki violin and viola teacher, I work with children as young as three. I think the most rewarding aspect is when a child has been struggling with a specific skill and then finally gets it. It’s like the light switch has been turned on and they can finally see what they have been working so hard towards. It is extremely rewarding for me as a music teacher to have the opportunity to guide my students in their musical and life journeys.”

Whether through private or group lessons, The Music School of Delaware has become an outstanding facility dedicated to music appreciation in Milford. The Music School of Delaware is located on 10 S Walnut Street and is open Monday through Thursday from 10pam to 6pm, except for scheduled events.
