Motorcycle Run To Support Carlisle

3The Milford Church of God will be hosting a motorcycle run event on Saturday, June 21 to benefit the Carlisle Fire Company of Milford. Riders will participate in a motorcycle ride that will cover approximately 90 miles on back roads across Kent and Sussex Counties. With 100% of proceeds going to the local fire department, Carlisle will use the funds to equip their new truck.

The second year for the event, Pastor Andy Stevens originally began the motorcycle run to raise money for the Reverend Tull Scholarship. A cornerstone of the Milford Church of God congregation for decades, Reverend W.E. celebrated his 100th birthday last October. Pastor Tull was instrumental in starting Milford Church of God in1945 as he built the congregation from the ground up. With the scholarship now available through the Church of God, Pastor Andy Stevens wanted to use the event to help support a local organization. After talking with officials at the Carlisle Fire Department, Stevens knew that the local fire company was that worthy group.

“I have always been a big advocate for the Carlisle Fire Company, it always amazed me that they are all volunteers.,” commented Stevens. “I really respect the work that they do .”

Funds raised from the event will help to purchase equipment for a recently purchased fire truck that will become the first attack vehicle on fires that the company is called to in Kent and Sussex Counties. This pumper fire truck, which will be replacing an older engine from 1996, will be equipped with breathing apparatus, hose lines and complimentary hand tools. Carlisle Fire Chief Duane Fox is grateful to have the support of the Church of God and says the money is much appreciated as the all volunteer company is always looking for additional finances to help with the large operation.

“When people recognize what we do in the community it makes us feel like we are doing our job and it feels great to see the community helping out ,”commented Cheif Fox.

The motorcycle run will begin at the Milford Church of God, located at 500 N. Walnut Street. Riders will travel approximately 90 miles on back roads across Kent and Sussex Counties and end their ride at the Carlisle Fire Hall, located at 615 NW Front Street. Along the way, participants will draw scripture cards at each stop that will be worth points. The riders with the largest amount of points will be awarded prizes at the Carlisle Fire Hall including gift certificates and cash.

“It is a fun time and it is always feels good whenever you can give to something worthy, it blesses you back as a giver,” commented Rev. Stevens. “Our hope is to increase awareness for the fire department an other local first responders.”

The motorcycle run will also be looking to increase patronage to local businesses as the church is asking businesses to be involved with the event. For a donation of $50, businesses can be featured in the road map that will be handed out to all of the riders on the day of the event. With a second successful year, Rev. Stevens hopes to make the motorcycle run an annual event.
