5Staff Report

On Friday, May 23 Randy Daino of Milford’s Boy Scouts of America (BSA) Troop 186 achieved the honor of Eagle Scout, the highest honor in the BSA organization. The ceremony was held at the Avenue Methodist Church where Randy’s family, friends and fellow troop members celebrated his accomplishment.

The Eagle Scout Award is the pinnacle of the scouting efforts for many years of dedication and hard work. While earning at least 21 merit badges, the scout must exemplify the responsibilities of honor, loyalty, courage, cheerfulness and service.

Randy Daino’s accomplishments over the years with Troop 186 include earning 24 merit badges. He held numerous leadership positions as Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader and as Troop Guide. He attended 24 camping trips for a total of 61 nights camping and participated in several service projects for a total of 57 hours. He will graduate from Milford Senior High School this week and will attend Delaware State University majoring in Engineering this fall. Randy’s Eagle Scout Project was to build and install Blue Bird boxes at the Milford Veteran’s Hospital including a conservation project.

“I charge you to undertake your citizenship with solemn dedication. Be a leader, but lead only towards the best,” stated Boy Scout Leader John Roney during Randy’s ceremony. “Lift up every task that you do, and every office you hold to the highest level of service to God and your fellow men. So live and serve that those who know you will be inspired to the finest living.”

In addition to receiving the honor of Eagle Scout, Randy also received several accolades and recognitions from the United States Senate, Delaware State Senate and the City of Milford.
