Girls Night Out is More than Marvelous

By CCGM Executive Director jo Schmeiser

This year’s Girls Night Out, with a great deal of help from our Corporate Sponsors, Marvelous Men of Milford and the volunteers was a huge success, and surely a night to remember. The event was held Friday, May 2nd in the Harrington Raceway & Casino Gold Ball Room, and was filled to Fire Marshall Code Capacity. There were close to 250 ticket holders, and in addition to the Marvelous Men, the vendors, the event volunteers and employees of the casino about 350 people enjoyed an evening full of fun and many happy memories.

The evening began with a walk down the “Pink Carpet”and ran from 6:30 to 10 pm as DJ Dana McDonald kept the party going by offering games and dancing. Guests also had an opportunity to purchase a Pink Ribbon Cupcake that might have a piece of costume jewelry hidden in it, for a chance to win a real piece of jewelry. Attendees could also purchase Chinese Auction tickets to take a chance to win items donated from the event vendors, and other donations from gift cards to gift baskets.

Of course the games, the dancing, the food and the vendors were all wonderful, however what the “Girls” really wanted to see were the Marvelous Men of Milford. Working with the models was a pleasure and each guy brought something unique and fun to the event. Each model worked hard to help raise money for two great causes, the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition and the CCGM, while hoping to raise enough to become this year’s Marvelous Man of Milford. The Marvelous Men of Milford Fashion Show and Auction begins as each model sells event tickets, raffle tickets, gets donations, sells calendars and is auctioned off for a group dance. The Marvelous Man that raises the most money wins the title of Milford’s Marvelous Man for the year.

The Marvelous Men did the Cat Walk, strolled around the ball room, chatted with guests, and then it was time for the auction. The guests were ready to bid, and the models were ready for their group dance, although during the evening the models were already dancing and even started a conga line. The auction went off without a hitch, and the 2014 Marvelous Man was announced.

Dr. Mike Meyer raised the most money this year and was awarded the Marvelous Man title along with a wheel barrel full of prizes. Dr. Meyer’s mother was a 14 year breast cancer survivor and passed away in 2002. His girlfriend lost her mom to cancer last year and many of Dr. Meyer’s friends lost loved ones to cancer. One of Dr. Meyer’s good friends is currently in treatment for stage-four metastatic breast cancer. Dr. Meyer put a lot of time and energy into his fundraising campaign for this event because of his dedication to the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition. He says he appreciates the fact that all the money raised for the DBCC stays local and that the DBCC supports our local communities with one-on-one support.

The new Marvelous Men of Milford Calendar has been produced and were sold the evening of the event, however there are still calendars available at the chamber for only $5.00. Each month highlights one of the models and its for 2015, so individuals can purchase them now as a gift that gives the rest of the year and during the holidays. Photos of the event can be found on the chamber website at and on the chamber Facebook page.
