2014 Baseball Season Kicks Off

After being crowned Delaware State Champions and Eastern Regional Championship last year, the Milford Senior League Softball team faced off against the toughest competitors from across the globe in the Little League World Series. Although the girls closed the tournament at 1-3, they had a historical run that will be in the Milford history books forever. The team includes Darby Brennan, Kayla Brennan, Bri Cahall, Jenna Campbell, Savannah Case, Kasey Fry, Megan Fry, Brea MacFarland, Emily Messick, Jasmine Passwaters, Harley Rickards and Haylee Scruggs. Special awards for the evening were given to individuals that have been dedicated to Milford Little League for years including Ron Fry, Mike Brittingham and Gary Emory. Recognized by President Bullock, Emory received a top honor as a little league field was named after him, becoming ‘Gary Emory Field’. Throughout his 35-plus year tenure with the City of Milford Parks & Recreation Department, Gary placed Milford Little League as a top priority grooming the ball fields and helping the organization any way that he could.

“It is important that the youth of Milford have a positive, safe and well organized Little League program so they can continue to make childhood memories that will last a lifetime,” commented Emory as he accepted the honor.

The first pitch of the 2014 Little League Baseball season was thrown out by pitcher Luke Azzanesi and catcher Jared Write and pitcher Lawson Whaley and catcher Patrick Donchue. The first pitch of the 2013 Little League Softball season was thrown out by Brea MacFarland and Jenna Campbell, both part of the 2013 Senior Girls World Series Softball Team.

Established since 1960, Milford Little League grew over the years to its current state which includes over 450 families participating each year on 9 different fields in over a dozen different programs that fit every player’s level. The all volunteer based organization does so much for the Milford community before, during and after baseball and softball season. They are looking for volunteers to help with grounds committee and facilities maintenance, umpiring, concession stand, fundraising and coaching.
