The next phase in the reconstruction of Delaware’s busiest interchange is calling for nighttime closure of two exits, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Monday, Jan. 11, through Friday, Jan. 29, pending weather and operational constraints.

Involved are Exit 3B, Route 141 northbound to Interstate 95 southbound, and 5A, I-95 southbound to Route 141 southbound.

The Delaware Department of Transportation says the closings near Newport are needed to work on structural components of the new bridge that carries Route 141 over I-95.

Drivers heading north on Route 141 who want to reach I-95 southbound will take the ramp to Route 4, continue straight onto Marshall Street, turn left onto westbound Route 4/Justis Street, turn left onto James Street, turn left onto eastbound Route 4/Market Street, take the ramp to Route 141 southbound and take the ramp to I-95 southbound.

Drivers heading southbound on I-95 who want to reach Route 141 southbound will take the ramp to Route 141 northbound, take the ramp to Route 4, continue straight onto Marshall Street, turn left onto westbound Route 4/Justis Street, turn left onto James Street, turn left onto eastbound Route 4/Market Street and take the ramp to Route 141 southbound.

Upgraded signals on Route 40

The intersections are with Glendale Boulevard/Walther Road (just east of the Wilmington University athletic complex), Wilton Boulevard (just west of Walmart), Scotland Drive (just east of the Sunset Station Shopping Center) and School Bell Road (next to the Bear Diner).

Daytime work not affecting traffic will be performed between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Nighttime intermittent lane closures will occur from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m.

The upgrades include pedestrian facilities, signal infrastructure, signal heads and loops. There will also be a bus rapid transit signal at Wilton Boulevard.
